American Express Cards are another new and convenient way to pay for bus travel

SALT Staff Writer

Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus are now accepting American Express Cards as a payment method for bus travel in the area, either via tap-on, tap-off or in the app. Passengers can travel anywhere on the operator networks in and around the areas of Brighton and Hove connecting the city to Heathfield, Eastbourne, Lewes and Tunbridge Wells. Metrobus passengers can travel on any of the 160 buses that operate across 50 routes through Sussex, Surrey and Kent and includes a new fleet of 54 environmentally friendly hydrogen buses.

Passengers can use their American Express Card for travel payments on the Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus apps and via the tap-on, tap-off system on board the bus. The process for payment of bus travel via the app is simple. Simply sign up for an account and register your Amex® Card to purchase daily, weekly, monthly or longer-term tickets. Plus, there’s access to bus timetables, discounts and a live tracking feature so passengers know exactly where their bus is at any time.

Boarding a bus and paying with an American Express Card works in the same way as other contactless payments cards. Simply tap-on and tap-off at the start and end of each journey. Or buy a ticket with an American Express Card. Single contactless tickets are still capped at £3 - no matter how far the journey is on the bus operator networks.

Ed Wills from Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus said: “We are delighted to offer American Express as a new and convenient way to pay for travel on our buses. American Express is a large employer in our city so it’s great to be partnering with them on this new initiative that offers increased access to buses for local people and people employed within the city and wider area.”

Holly Coventry, Vice President at American Express, said: “The American Express network is growing faster than ever in the UK, and we’re committed to empowering our Cardmembers to use their Amex Cards wherever they live, work and shop. By enabling acceptance with Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus, our Cardmembers can seamlessly tap, pay and go on their travels.”

To raise awareness of the new initiative and to promote the partnership a bus designed with American Express branding will be travelling around the city for a year as part of the Brighton & Hove Buses fleet.
